Resilience and the POP Framework

In the Marine Corps, resilience is not optional. It is a fundamental life skill. Olaolu adapted what he learned into a simple framework called POP C, which helps parents manage their own reactions before they guide their kids through adversity.

P — Project

Parents often project their own fears or emotions onto their child without realizing it. Awareness is key.

O — Overcompensate

When something goes wrong, parents sometimes do too much to make their child feel better. Not every challenge needs rescuing.

P — Pretend

Many parents try to push forward as if nothing happened. Kids need honesty, not avoidance.

C — Control

Parents try to control outcomes they cannot control, which increases stress for everyone. Presence and emotional availability matter far more than control.

This framework helps parents stay grounded so they can lead their children confidently through uncertainty and tough moments.
